alright guys in this video lets take a closer look at state and the set state method in react before we start though let me point out that I will be using the es 7 react snippets extension for the rest of the series it has some great snippets which will save us some time as we will see in this video now to help us understand the dos and donts with state and set state let us create a counter component we will basically have a count value and a button to increment that counter value Im going to start off by creating a new component called counter dot j/s so within the components folder a new file counter dot Jas since we are learning about state in class components this is going to be a class component as well and with react snippets I can type RC e and tap out and we have a class component I only want the default export though so I will remove the name export within the div tag Im going to have the text count and then let me add the counter component and the app component so count

Always use the setState() method to change the state object, it will ensure that the component knows its been updated and calls the render() method (and all the other lifecycle methods).
You can not set state inside render function because it will cause side effect. What exactly happens is that each time you update state react calls render function, so if you will update state inside render function then it will stuck inside infinite loop.
It ensures that the component has been updated and calls for re-rendering of the component. setState is asynchronous call means if synchronous call get called it may not get updated at right time like to know current value of object after update using setState it may not get give current updated value on console.
The steps are discussed below. Go inside the App. js file and clear everything. At the top of the App. js file import React,{Component} from react. Create a Class based component named App. This is the default App component that we have reconstructed. Create a state object named text, using this. state syntax.
Syntax: We can use setState() to change the state of the component directly as well as through an arrow function. Example 1: Updating single attribute. We set up our initial state value inside constructor function and create another function updateState() for updating the state.
Before updating the value of the state, we need to build an initial state setup. Once we are done with it, we use the setState() method to change the state object. It ensures that the component has been updated and calls for re-rendering of the component.
When the state object changes, the component will re-render itself. React state management is basically half of a React app. It includes all the data. How to Manage State in React useState. useReducer. useMemo useCallback. useEffect. useRef. Context and Custom Hooks. React Query React Location. Zustand.
The setState() Method State can be updated in response to event handlers, server responses, or prop changes. This is done using the setState() method. The setState() method enqueues all of the updates made to the component state and instructs React to re-render the component and its children with the updated state.
The second argument that can optionally be passed to setState is a callback function which gets called immediately after the setState is completed and the components get re-rendered.
The setState() schedule changes to the components state object and tells React that the component and its children must rerender with the updated state: // Correct this. setState({name: Obaseki Nosa}); React intentionally waits until all components call setState() in their event handlers before rerendering.
