The second argument that can optionally be passed to setState is a callback function which gets called immediately after the setState is completed and the components get re-rendered.
In React, the state is immutable. In simple terms it means that you should not modify it directly. Instead a new object should be created to set the state using setState .
To update state in React components, we'll use either the this. setState function or the updater function returned by the React. useState() Hook in class and function components, respectively.
Using a callback passed to setState The callback is called after the state has updated using updater method thus the callback has access to the updated this.
The setState() Method State can be updated in response to event handlers, server responses, or prop changes. This is done using the setState() method. The setState() method enqueues all of the updates made to the component state and instructs React to re-render the component and its children with the updated state.
Because setState() function changes the state of the application and causing a change in the state called the render() function again. So if you write something like this then calling the function stack will go for infinity and application gets the crash.
The setState() schedule changes to the component's state object and tells React that the component and its children must rerender with the updated state: // Correct this. setState({name: 'Obaseki Nosa'}); React intentionally waits until all components call setState() in their event handlers before rerendering.
Syntax: We can use setState() to change the state of the component directly as well as through an arrow function. Example 1: Updating single attribute. We set up our initial state value inside constructor function and create another function updateState() for updating the state.
The setState() Method State can be updated in response to event handlers, server responses, or prop changes. This is done using the setState() method. The setState() method enqueues all of the updates made to the component state and instructs React to re-render the component and its children with the updated state.
Calling setState() inside render() is a no-no. Whenever you call setState() in general the render() will be run afterwards. Doing so inside render() itself will cause that function to be called again, and again, and again... Mutating the state and/or props directly.
