Were going to start with the absolute basics of how you even just get a page number onto every single page in Word. Then well look at some more advanced topics like how you start your page numbers from a specific page. To follow along, Ive included a sample document down below in the description. Lets check this out. Here I am in Microsoft Word, and I want to add page numbers to this document. To insert page numbers, up on the top tabs, lets click on the insert option. Over on the right-hand side, lets click on page number and here we see several different options. We can insert a page number at the top of the page and here we can left align it, center align it, or right align it, and if I scroll down, we see a number of different options. You can even add page one of one or one of however many pages you have, and here you have some different formats. I could add a page num

To change the styling, head over to the Pages panel menu and choose Numbering Section Options. In the Page Numbering section, under the Styling pull-down menu, choose from Roman, small Roman, Arabic, or even letters and numbers with leading zeros.
Create a text frame for your list and click the numbered list button to insert a list. Type your list items, pressing your Enter key between items. InDesign consecutively numbers the list automatically; you can change the number it begins with and the style of the numerals.
You can change document numbering options when you select a document page (not a parent page) and choose Layout Numbering Section Options. You can also change these options when you choose Document Numbering Options from the Book panel menu.
Position the insertion point where you want the page number to appear, and then choose Type Insert Special Character Markers Current Page Number. Apply the parent page to the document pages on which you want the page numbering to appear.
To choose a format or to control the starting number, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers. To change the numbering style, select a different style in Number format. To change the starting page number of the newly created section, select Start at, and then enter a number. Select OK.
Start page numbering later in your document Go to Insert Header or Footer Edit Header or Edit Footer. Select Different First Page. In the header or footer area, you should see a label on the first page that says First Page Header. Select Close Header and Footer or press Esc to exit.
On the Insert tab, click the Page Number icon, and then click Page Number. Select a location, and then pick an alignment style. Word automatically numbers every page, except designated title pages. To change the numbering style, select Format and then choose the formatting you want to use.
Insert Page X of Y Go to Insert Page Number. Do one of the following: Select Current Position if you have a header or footer. Scroll until you see Page X of Y and select a format. Select Close Header and Footer, or double-click anywhere outside the header or footer area.
