Steri-Strips will fall off on their own within two weeks. After two weeks, gently remove any remaining Steri-Strips from your skin. If the strips start to curl before its time to remove them, you can trim them instead of peeling them from your skin. Peeling off Steri-Strips could irritate your skin.
To be able to fully straighten a knee after an ACL injury, pain must be managed and swelling around the injury must be reduced. Overstretching should be avoided but gentle stretching is encouraged. As massage can release tension in the muscles, stretching can be easier after a session.
Bandages Ace Wrap: Your incisions were closed with a single long stitch, which were covered with small white tapes called Steri-Strips. Your Steri- Strips should be left in place until your sutures are removed 10 to 12 days after surgery.
You may take the bandages off two to four days after surgery. If steri-strips were applied to the incisions, do not remove, let them fall off on their own. Remaining steri-strips may be removed after day 10 following your surgery.
Compartment syndrome is a rare complication after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. This is one of the most devastating complications after surgery of the lower limb, with certain risks of renal failure, shock, and even death.
Therefore, you may shower when you get home, but the incision will need to be covered. I recommend using saran wrap around the area to prevent it from getting wet. The stitches will be removed at the first follow up appointment 7-14 days after the surgery; thereafter, it is safe to get the incision wet.
Dressing Change o Leave the dressing in place for 48 hours following surgery. o After this, remove the dressing making sure to leave the steri-strip tape on the incisions in place. The steri strips will stay in place for 1 to 2 weeks before falling off on their own.
Sleep with your knee raised, but not bent. Put a pillow under your foot. Keep your leg raised as much as you can for the first few days. You can use a brace and crutches to move around the house to do daily tasks.
