The AMI head-end system serves as a hub for incoming data from all installed smart meters. The head-end system verifies the data, performs preliminary processing and then forwards it to the meter data management system (MDMS). The MDMS is where the data comes to life.
AMI meters use a radio signal to receive and transmit information. They are part of a larger network where each meter sends signals to ATCOs meter data collection system, so we can get an accurate reading of your usage. RF meters only transmit for milliseconds and at levels that are half of a smartphone!
