Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. Iamp;#39;m going to show you how to transform photos into the look of steel engravings like we see on paper money. Open a photo youamp;#39;d like to use for this project. I downloaded this one and the others from Shutterstock. First, letamp;#39;s check its size by pressing Ctrl + Alt + i on Window or Cmd + Option + i on a Mac or you can go to Image and Image Size. Make its width approximately 2000 pixels and its resolution 150 pixels per inch. its height can be any amount. Check amp;quot;Resampleamp;quot; and choose amp;quot;Preserve Details 2.0amp;quot;. Then, click OK or press Enter or Return. Click the Adjustment Layer icon and click amp;quot;Black amp;amp; Whiteamp;quot;. Weamp;#39;ll covert our black and white image into a Smart Object, so we can modify it non-destructively as well as replace it with a different photo if we want to without having to redo the effects. To do this, Shift-click the bottom

Below are some common questions from our customers that may provide you with the answer you're looking for. If you can't find an answer to your question, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Size - To maximize detail in your engraving, make your print as large as possible and crop away any unimportant parts of your image. Invert Colors - Some materials like black acrylic become lighter when theyre engraved.
Removing an engraving isnt super expensive, typically its the same price as polishing, but depends on the material of the ring. Removal can usually be done in one day. Its important to note that the process of removing an engraving may not always result in a completely restored appearance.
Laser marking, also known as laser engraving or laser etching, is a precise and permanent method of adding marks or designs to various materials.
If youre laser engraving glass, assuming it fractured the surface on the first pass, a second pass is likely to make it look worse. If youre using a CO2 laser to mark anodized aluminum, you can go over it again within reason, especially if part of the material was out of focus, like on a cup.
Fundamental Step-by-Step Step 1: Choose a good-quality photo. Step 2: Edit and Crop the photo. Step 3: Remove the background. Step 4: Convert image to grayscale. Step 5: Resize the image. Step 6: Sharpen the image. Step 7: Convert image to Bitmap. Step 8: Import into the laser engraver.
It is true that you can sometimes buff out an engraving that isnt very deep and potentially engrave the item again, even over the same place. Unfortunately, plated metal doesnt work like this at all youll just buff the plating off and reveal the metal underneath the plating, essentially destroying the item.
Removing an Engraving To remove an engraving, a jeweler has to laser the metal at the area of the engraving, blasting it to level out the texture of the metal. Once this is done, the jeweler polishes the item and restores it to a smooth, blank surface.
Sanding or Polishing the Error If the engraved mistake is shallow and on a suitable material such as wood, acrylic or some metals then you can simply sand and polish it away. Make sure you use masking tape to protect the area around the mistake before sanding with coarse grit sandpaper.
