If you dont receive your new PR card before you travel abroad, you can submit an application for a permanent resident travel document (PRTD). If requesting urgent processing, write Urgent on your envelope. Note: If you do not send all this information, we may not process your application urgently.
A typical processing time is between two to eight weeks. However, the actual processing time for some people could be longer. Therefore, submit your PRTD application at least two to three months before travelling to Canada. Of course, urgent situations could happen, and IRCC reviews those case by case.
How long will I have to wait before I receive my PR Card? Generally, it takes about 45 days to process PR cards for new permanent residents once IRCC receives a complete application package from individuals who have fulfilled their residency requirements. Applications for renewed PR Cards generally take 104 days.
