So first of all what we will do is open a Header here, then double click on the top side and see it is open. You can see that our cursor is blinking here. Well as soon as the Header will open a new tab will appear in the ribbon above Header and Footer. This tab will be visible only when you open the header. Now look carefully, for now the height of our header is this. Now see this is the option to increase or decrease the height of the header. Now see when we click on it, our cursor is moving upwards. In header/footer edit mode, hover your mouse pointer over the bottom/Top margin of the Header / Footer until it turns into the 2 headed arrow. Then you can click and drag the margin up/down.
OK, so thats likely to be a spacing issue. Right-click in the header Paragraph and check all the indentation and spacing options are set to 0cm/0pt.
You can change the header margin too. We do the same thing, we double-click the header area, we press Ctrl+A to select everything inside there. And then we drag that right indent marker about an inch from the edge of the page.
Scroll back up and click anywhere within the FIRST page of the letter. Click on Change Page Layout in the Related Actions menu on the left. Here you can change the Header (and Footer) distance then click OK. This will make that change for the FIRST page only.
