Welcome to Qt Widgets and More. In this episode, we are going to see the number one most hidden feature in Qt Designer, namely how to hook up a bunch of radio buttons into a button group. Ive created a very simple user interface in Qt Designer here. I have a button group here with Choose one good thing, A hug, A song by Depeche Mode, or Watching QWAM QWAM? Qt Widgets and More! Come on -- It sounds like one of those cartoons from the 80s where the bad guy and the good guy they fight, and its like, QWAM! Am I getting beside the point? Okay, nevermind. Lets review this inside my Qt Creator, and you can see they work pretty well. So far, so good. Next, section is choose two, not just one, bad things. Answering emails all day long? COVID-19? A RadioGroup class is used for set of radio buttons. If we check one radio button that belongs to a radio group, it automatically unchecks any previously checked radio button within the same group.
The alternatives to radio buttons are checkboxes and drop down boxes. Use them over the alternatives when: One answer must be selected. There are three or fewer (4 at a stretch) possible answers.
When should you use radio buttons or checkboxes? This relies entirely on what question you are asking. If you want your users to select multiple options, use checkboxes. If you want your users to select only one option, use radio buttons (or another alternative).
Important Note: RadioGroup is a widget used in Android for the grouping of radio buttons and provide the feature of selecting only one radio button from the set. When a user try to select any other radio button within same radio group the previously selected radio button will be automatically unchecked.
Once a radio button is checked, it cannot be marked as unchecked by user. RadioButton is generally used with RadioGroup. RadioGroup contains several radio buttons, marking one radio button as checked makes all other radio buttons as unchecked.
In a checkbox group, a user can select more than one option. Each checkbox operates individually, so a user can toggle each response on and off. Radio buttons, however, operate as a group and provide mutually exclusive selection values. A user can select only one option in a radio button group.
You group radio buttons by drawing them inside a container such as a Panel control, a GroupBox control, or a form. All radio buttons that are added directly to a form become one group. To add separate groups, you must place them inside panels or group boxes.
