The values of all attributes of type ID (which includes all xml:id attributes) within a document are unique.
The DITA identity attribute provides a mechanism for identifying content for linking. The id attribute assigns an identifier to DITA elements so the elements can be referenced. The id attribute is available for most elements. The id attribute is required on some elements.
id is used to identify the HTML element through the Document Object Model (via JavaScript or styled with CSS). id is expected to be unique within the page. name corresponds to the form element and identifies what is posted back to the server.
IDs must be unique - the same ID should not be used more than once in the same page. Otherwise, they can interfere with the user agents (e.g. web browser, assistive technology, search engine) ability to properly parse and interpret the page.
Under XML 1.0, an ID is a unique identifier to aid in processing. You can annotate an element uniquely with an attribute of type ID, as in id=i-35867 (IDs cant start with a number), which often assumes an associated DTD containing the attribute-list declaration
The DITA identity attribute provides a mechanism for identifying content for linking. The id attribute assigns an identifier to DITA elements so the elements can be referenced. The id attribute is available for most elements. The id attribute is required on some elements.
XML elements can have attributes, just like HTML. Attributes are designed to contain data related to a specific element.Avoid XML Attributes? attributes cannot contain multiple values (elements can) attributes cannot contain tree structures (elements can) attributes are not easily expandable (for future changes)
The id attribute of an HTML element, used to identify the element when linking, scripting or styling, must be unique in the whole document and must not contain whitespace.
The purpose of the xs:ID datatype is to define unique identifiers that are global to a document and emulate the ID attribute type available in the XML DTDs. Unlike their DTD counterparts, W3C XML Schema ID datatypes can be used to define not only attributes, but also simple element content.
This attribute is associated with the data within the element. Like the id attribute, the name attribute must begin with a letter and is case sensitive, but unlike the id attribute, it can be not unique. The name attribute cannot be referenced in CSS.
