Blot Spills Away For fresh liquid stains, blot up any excess liquid with a clean white cloth, paper towel, or even a piece of white bread (great for grease stains!). Remember to keep moving to a clean, dry area of the blotting cloth so as much of the stain is absorbed as possible.
What you need: White vinegar, baking soda, toothbrush Place the stained clothing in a bowl. Cover with white vinegar, rub the stains and leave to soak for about 30 minutes. Remove from the bowl and wring, then place on a worktop.
Mix 1 tablespoon vinegar with 2/3 cup rubbing alcohol. Use a clean cloth or rag to blot the stain with rubbing alcohol solution. Continue blotting until liquid is absorbed and stain disappears. Launder normally.
Sponge or soak stain in cool water. Pretreat with prewash stain remover, liquid laundry detergent, liquid detergent booster or paste of powder laundry product and water. Launder using sodium hypochlorite bleach, if safe for fabric, or oxygen bleach.
Stain removal is the process of removing a mark or spot left by one substance on a specific surface like a fabric. A solvent or detergent is generally used to conduct stain removal and many of these are available over the counter.
In this chapter, we discuss eight physical stain-removal techniques: brushing, flushing, freezing, presoaking, pretreating, scraping, sponging, and tamping.
The golden rules of stain removal Act quickly scrape off solids with a blunt knife and blot liquid with absorbent paper. Sponge off protein stains, such as milk or blood, with cold water. Dont over-wet any kind of stain small, repeated applications work much better.
On washable fabrics like school uniform, the stain will often come out simply by machine-washing it at 40C with a biological detergent. For more stubborn stains, try pre-treating the area with some liquid biological laundry detergent then wash as normal.
Why is it important to remove stains on garments/fabrics? Stains on clothes are never a good look, not to mention theyre contradictory to good hygiene. Dirty clothes are a breeding ground for bacteria and bad odors.
4 golden rules of stain removal Absorb it. First lift off or soak up as much of the staining substance as possible. Dissolve it. Residue that cant be absorbed needs to be dissolved. Use a detergent. Greasy or fatty stains, such as gravy, will not dissolve in water. Use a chemical reaction.
