USPA, one of the largest powerlifting federations in the country, has adopted the Dots formula. The Wilks formula is a constant divided by a fifth degree polynomial in terms of bodyweight, and the Dots formula is a constant divided by a fourth degree polynomial in terms of bodyweight.
In the deadlift, there is only one command the DOWN command. Unlike the squat and bench press where there are rules to start and end the movement, the deadlift doesnt have these commands.
A powerlifting meet is an all-day event. It includes three squat attempts, three bench attempts and three deadlift attempts. You get about 30 minutes to warm up for each. Make sure you are prepared for the long day.
The commands are SQUAT and RACK. The SQUAT command permits you to initiate the descent and will only be given to you once youve positioned yourself and have control of the bar. Now you descend whenever you are ready and once youve stood up with the bar you will hold it in place until the next command.
Powerlifting scores are calculated by taking the heaviest attempt lifted for the squat, bench press, and deadlift, and adding them together.
Referees failure card. 2. BLUE. SQUAT. Failure to assume an upright position with the knees locked at the commencement and at the completion of the lift.
When the lifter is motionless (in the apparent final position ) the Chief Referee will give the signal to rack the bar. The signal to rack the bar will consist of a backward motion of the arm and the audible command Rack. The lifter must then move forward and return the bar to the racks.
Commands: the bench press has 3 commands, start, press and rack which is more than those given during the squat and deadlift. These commands can vary in duration from meet to meet, depending on the referee and the lifter. If ill prepared, this amount of variability can work against the lifter.
At every competition, there will be three referees who collectively decide if the lift was good or bad. A white light is given for a good lift, where the lift is allowed to contribute to the total and a red light given for a bad lift, where the lift is not allowed to contribute to the total.
Jamal Browner. On this basis of total weight lifted, Jamal @jamalb15 easily comes out on top with 2182.5lbs (990kg) total.
