From the Azure Active Directory Engineering team, my name is Joey Snow. Lets get into it. So, Microsofts developed a wizard-based series of setup guides in order to help customers get specific scenarios deployed faster and its all based on Microsofts FastTrack experience. Our customers can leverage these setup guides to rapidly accelerate their deployments as well as get all of the value for what they purchased. There are currently five setup guides specific to identity, but today were really only going to be focusing on onethe multifactor authentication, or MFA, guide. Now passwords are the weakest link in a security chain and a single point of failure without any additional verification. Turn off 2-Step Verification Open your devices Settings app and tap Google. Manage your Google Account. At the top, tap Security. Under How you sign in to Google, tap 2-Step Verification. You might need to sign in. Tap Turn off. Confirm by tapping Turn off.
Method 1: Recovering through your Microsoft account. To recover your Microsoft Authenticator without your old phone, follow the steps in this method focused on using your Microsoft account. Access the recovery options, verify your identity, remove the old phone from the app, and set up the Authenticator on a new phone.
Basically, to reset your Authenticator app, you need to follow these steps with the admin credentials: Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and sign in with your admin credentials. Click on Users Active users. Select your user account and click on Reset multi-factor authentication under More settings.
Step 1: Proceed to MFA security info site. Step 2: Delete the existing Microsoft Authenticator method. Step 3: Configure the Microsoft Authenticator app. Step 4: Choose the correct default sign-in method. Step 5: Test the app.
If you still have access to your old Authenticator and arent using cloud backup, you can easily restore all of your accounts onto a new device by scanning your QR code with that device. The only way to recover Authenticator if youve lost your phone and werent using cloud backup is to back up your QR code in advance.
In the Backup section, toggle-On Cloud Backup on an Android phone, or iCloud Backup on an iPhone. Once you do this, Youll be asked to sign in to the Microsoft account you used for the backup on your old phone. Your accounts will then automatically be added to Microsoft Authenticator on your new one.
Add a new account to the Microsoft authenticator app Go to the Security info page using the steps above. Select Add sign-in method. Select Choose a method and then Authenticator app. Follow the on-screen instructions, including using your mobile device to scan the QR code, and then select Next. Select Save.
