The IDENTITY(1,1) property means that the id column will start from 1 and increase by 1 for each new row. You can also use negative values for the increment to create a descending sequence. For example, IDENTITY(100,-1) will start from 100 and decrease by 1 for each new row.
@@IDENTITY will return the last identity value entered into a table. @@IDENTITY is not limited to a specific scope. Suppose we create a table and set the identity value to true for a column in the table. After that, when we insert data into the table, we get the last identity value using @@IDENTITY.
The IDENTITY keyword is a property in SQL Server. When a table column is defined with an identity property, its value will be auto-generated incremental value. This value is created by the server automatically. Therefore, we cant manually enter a value into an identity column as a user.
Reset the Identity Value Using the DBCC CHECKIDENT Method : Here, to reset the Identity column in SQL Server you can use DBCC CHECKIDENT method. Syntax : DBCC CHECKIDENT (tablename, RESEED, newvalue); Note : If we reset the existing records in the table and insert new records, then it will show an error.
In Id int identity(1,1) , the first 1 means the starting value of ID and the second 1 means the increment value of ID. It will increment like 1,2,3,4.. If it was (5,2), then, it starts from 5 and increment by 2 like, 5,7,9,11, Identity columns can be used for generating key values.
The MS SQL Server uses the IDENTITY keyword to perform an auto-increment feature. In the example above, the starting value for IDENTITY is 1, and it will increment by 1 for each new record. Tip: To specify that the Personid column should start at value 10 and increment by 5, change it to IDENTITY(10,5) .
SQL ORDER BY Descending: DESC keyword The basic syntax looks like this: SELECT column1, column2, FROM table ORDER BY column1 DESC; When you want to display results in descending order based on multiple columns, separate the column names with commas and add the DESC keyword after each column name.
