The plural choice (always without apostrophe, unless showing ownership or possession) depends upon letter combinations. If a name ends in ch, sh, s, x, z, an es gets added to form the plural most of the time.
Use the apostrophe + s after the second name if two people possess the same item. Otherwise, use an apostrophe after each name. Never use an apostrophe with possessive pronouns: his, hers, its, theirs, ours, yours, whose. They already show possession.
If the name ends in s, z, ch, or sh, you must add es. That means the Davis family becomes the Davises, the French family becomes the Frenches, the Hernandez family becomes the Hernandezes, and the Glaves family becomes the Glaveses. If the name ends in x, add esunless the x is silent.
Follow these steps to create a formula to reverse first and last names: In cell B1, type a heading - Name FirstLast. Press Enter, and the named table will expand to include column B. In cell B2, type this formula: =MID(A2 A2,FIND(, ,A2)+2,LEN(A2)-1) The formula automatically fills down to the last row in the table.
Plural and Possessive Names: A Guide Why is it Socrates deathbed but Dickenss novels? Names are proper nouns, which become plurals the same way that other nouns do: add the letter -s for most names (the Johnsons, the Websters) or add -es if the name ends in s or z (the Joneses, the Martinezes).
In most cases, its simple to pluralize a name. Just add an s at the end. There are some exceptions and cases that cause confusion.
If a name is singular but ends in an s, you always add an apostrophe after the name to show possession, but you can also add another s after the apostrophe if you prefer (e.g., Jess office OR Jesss office). If the name is plural, simply add an apostrophe at the end to show possession (e.g., the Jones new baby).
