Welcome to tech illiterate. Im nic and today I learned how to apply thermal paste. Now let me show you how its done. Youre going to need Paper towel, Cotton swabs, Isopropyl alcohol and your favorite thermal compound. The first thing youre going to need to do is clean off your CPU. If youre installing a brand new CPU this wont matter. But if you have old compound on your CPU or even if youve touched the top of it with fingers or anything like that, its a good idea to clean it. Make sure you have that paper towel and cotton swabs handy, grab a few of them. There are different liquids you can use to clean the top of the CPU but I would recommend Isopropyl alcohol. Its Normally easy to get and will do a good job of getting rid of the residue. If youre installing a new processor, nevermind this part. However if you have a CPU cooler installed. Go ahead and remove it. Most are mounted to the motherboard like this Kraken X53. Just with 4 screws that can be loosened by hand. Yours m

An insufficient amount might not cover the surface area needed in order to be effective. Too much reduces the efficacy of the paste, due to the metal surfaces being too far apart, and also risks spilling out onto the motherboard during installation.
If you use too much thermal paste, the layer will be too thick and may spill out of CPU. If you use too little thermal paste, the layer wont cover the entire CPU. In either case, the heat transfer efficiency is impacted docHubly.
No, do not put all 1g on your CPU. The purpose of thermal paste is to have the thinnest layer possible while covering the entire CPU, generally speaking a pea sized dot in the middle is enough, and mounting pressure will spread it on its own.

Thermal paste works by transferring heat away from the central processing unit of a computer and into the heat sink to prevent the CPU from overheating.
