Integer type numbers It is a signed 16 bit type. The valid range is therefore integers from -32768 to 32767. Notice the difference between Huygens 16 bit mode, and TIFF file format 16 bit. Huygens is signed (allowing positive and negative values), and Tiffs is unsigned (only positive values allowed).
Disadvantages of TIFF files. They can take up valuable space on your drive. Their size makes them difficult to share or send to contacts or clients. Their high quality makes them a poor choice for website design, since detailed images can slow a websites loading speed.
Like JPEGs, TIFFs are a raster graphic file, but this format uses lossless compression to retain image data. This means that TIFF files are generally large. They tend to take up a lot of drive space and can be impossible to send via email.
Because of their large size, TIFF files usually arent used for everyday marketing content. While a TIFF file might be the original creative file, it will likely be converted to another format to be used in slide decks, websites, and other marketing materials. Avoid TIFF files for: Web graphics.
There is no real difference between the . tif and . tiff file extensions. They both refer to the same file format, which is the Tagged Image File Format (TIFF).
It is possible to have legitimate negative pixel values after calibration, but I think it would be wise to make sure your bias and dark values are not being subtracted twice, or that a pedestal value that is inserted by some camera control software is not somehow getting subtracted twice.
Due to its lossless compression, TIFF files tend to be larger in size compared to other formats like JPEG. This can make them less suitable for web and online sharing, where smaller file sizes are preferred for faster loading times.
