there are some images that do not work well as a stamped impression a negative image is an image that has the background as the printed impression with a text or artwork left blank this may not work well because the detail in the white space may be too small to come through heres an example of a negative image in a positive image alongside the results of the stamped impression as you can see the detail in the text and the tree turn out much more clearly in the positive image

Coat the design on the cut side of the potato with a thin layer of paint. Dont put on too much paint or it will clump up and make the stamped image smeared and unreadable. Use a paintbrush to apply enough paint to just cover the stamp. If youre stamping on paper, use watercolor or acrylic paint.
You can make a stamp using any image that is clear and dark. A very easy way of making a negative is to cut a shape out of dark paper or thin card. You can fold it over and cut through both sides to make a symmetrical cut out shape. When you open it up you will have a clear cut out surrounded by dark card.
You can use a rubber-stamping ink pad or paint poured into a saucer or plate. Simply dab the cardboard tube into the paint or onto the ink pad until the surface is covered and then press it on paper to create an impression on the surface of the paper.
A negative-stamp imagewhere you carve away the dark areas of your designis quicker and easier, but tends to look less professional. The positive-stamp imagewhere you carve away the light areas from your designgenerally is slower and more challenging to carve, but the results tend to look much better.

Make your own clear rubber stamps (polymer actually) to use on clay, polymer clay, fabric, paper, or anything else you can think of. This is an easy process that allows you to make stamps out of practically any black and white image you can come up with, and you can make them whatever size you like.
Instructions Choose a design. Size your design. Trace your design onto parchment paper with a pencil. Transfer the design onto the carving rubber. Begin carving the rubber. Cut your stamp off the rubber block. Remove larger areas with bigger carving tips. Test your stamp.
Instructions Step One Cut styrofoam tray into squares. Step Two Using a pencil, etch designs or letters into squares to create a stamp. Step Three Tape, velcro or hot glue your styrofoam stamp to a wood block or other item to make it easier to hold. Step Four Start stamping!
