For writing math equations in LaTeX, there are two writing modes: the inline mode and the display mode. The inline mode is used to write formulas that are part of the text and the display mode is used to write expressions that are not part of the text and hence are put on different lines.
Operation symbols Multiplication: \cdot or \times. Division: \div.
Text. Writing text in a LaTeX document is easy. Once you are inside the body of the document, as described in the Document Structure section of this page, all you have to do is start typing. When you compile the code LaTeX will take care of all the text formatting based on any commands and packages used.
The fastest way to make a normal division symbol on Windows is with the alt code Alt + 0247 or Alt + 246. Youll type the moment you let go of the Alt key.
You can add negative as well as positive space with an \hspace command. Adding negative space is like backspacing. LaTeX removes horizontal space that comes at the end of a line. If you dont want LaTeX to remove this space, include the optional * argument.
Insert a double backslash to set a point for the equation to be broken. The first part will be aligned to the left and the second part will be displayed in the next line and aligned to the right.
Long division requires a LaTeX extension. To load the extension, use the \require command to load the \enclose extension that allows you to access MathML elements, including long division \longdiv . An extension only needs to be loaded once, then it would be available for the entire book in Pressbooks.
Either you already are, such as in displaymath, equation, or array enviropnments, or within $ $ (which is inline math), or, in text, open math mode for it and write $-$. Usually, a minus is not alone, so the complete expression should be written in math mode, such as $-2.93$ or $-x$.
