There are two ways to edit a TIN in ArcGIS: using the TIN Editing toolbar in ArcMap and using the Edit TIN geoprocessing tool in the TIN Management toolset from the 3D Analyst toolbox. The interactive TIN Editing tools allow you to interactively edit individual features that contribute to the TIN surface.
Create a TIN On the Analysis tab, click the Tools button . The Geoprocessing pane appears. Type Create TIN in the search box, and press Enter to search for the tool. Double-click Create TIN to open the tool. Specify the parameters and click Run to build the TIN surface.
A TIN surface comprises the triangles that form a triangulated irregular network. TIN lines form the triangles that make up the surface triangulation. To create TIN lines, Autodesk Civil 3D connects the surface points that are closest together.
Breaklines are essential for creating a precise 3D surface model. It is the data interpolation that establishes the models shape. Breaklines connect data representing specific features on a surface, such as the centerline of a road, a ridgeline, or a ditchs flowline.
Hard breaklines can also be used to enhance the appearance of linear features in surface views and contour maps where sharp drainage or ridgelines are present. Soft breaklines are used to add information about the surface without implying a change in the surface behavior across the line.
Triangular irregular networks (TIN) have been used by the GIS community for many years and are a digital means to represent surface morphology. TINs are a form of vector-based digital geographic data and are constructed by triangulating a set of vertices (points).
Tin is a metal and a can is something which you put things in. Many people will use either or both to describe the same thing. I.e. I just bought a tin of beans. or, get that can of beans out of the cupboard. Or using both, Do you have a tin can I can use to put this widget in.
A hard line is a distinct break in slope, while a soft line is represented on the surface as a more gradual change in slope. Breaklines are enforced in the triangulation as a series of triangle edges.
