all right we are finally here the video where we finish up our modal it only took us what like 10 episodes 11 episodes into this series and the last four including this one have been dedicated to creating a modal so go check those out if you want to know the basics but hereamp;#39;s where weamp;#39;re at by the end of this video weamp;#39;re going to update the data showing up on the main page so we got the sick modal here itamp;#39;s crazy how cool it is but it doesnamp;#39;t change whatamp;#39;s over here so if i hit update well currently it does nothing it actually refreshes the page we got this question mark here none of the data actually changes so for a single page application we want to avoid any page refreshes whenever we can and we want the data to be updated dynamically when itamp;#39;s changed in state so right now we pretty much have two pieces of state the first piece of state is the state right here which is a temporary holder for what is typed in into these boxes

You can update single or multiple elements of lists by giving the slice on the left-hand side of the assignment operator, and you can add to elements in a list with the append() method.
The Basics of Updating State in React The state should be immutable, meaning you should never modify it directly. Instead, you should create a new state with the desired changes and use the setState function or the useState hook to update the state.
The setState() Method State can be updated in response to event handlers, server responses, or prop changes. This is done using the setState() method. The setState() method enqueues all of the updates made to the component state and instructs React to re-render the component and its children with the updated state.
If you modify the state directly, React may not detect the change, and your component might not re-render as expected. Potential Bugs: Modifying the state directly can introduce subtle bugs that are hard to track down.
This is done using the setState() method with an object as an argument. this. setState({ stateName: new value }); With this method, React will merge the provided object with the current state, updating the specified state property to the new value.
Always use the setState() method to change the state object, it will ensure that the component knows its been updated and calls the render() method (and all the other lifecycle methods).
