Navigate to the page layout and click the wrench to the right of the field in question and then deselect required and that should solve the issue.
You probably have it set to Always require a value in this field in order to save a record. That will automatically put the field on all page layouts. If you go to the custom field and edit it, you should be able to uncheck that option. Then you can remove it from your page layouts or delete it all together.
You can make standard (non required) and non-standard fields optionally required by using Record Types. Removing required fields from the detail page is possible via Dynamic forms on the record page. We need to remove the existing detail page and add the fields one by one as we wish to show.
Set the Required property for a field to Yes In the Navigation Pane, right-click the table and then click Design View. Select the field that you want to require always has a value. In the Field Properties pane, on the General tab, set the Required property to Yes.
To make a field not required: Go to Config Fields. Highlight the record type where the field resides. Locate the desired field and unmark the Required checkbox.
