The exclamation point is an incredibly helpful punctuation tool in writing. It helps the writer to express emotion (good or bad) through writing. An exclamation point is used to express that a sentence should be read as though someone were crying out, yelling, shouting, screaming, or making some type of loud remark.
The general rule in academic writing is to not use the exclamation mark. The long version of that rule is that many academics think that if a writer needs a special mark to add emphasis, they are not doing their job as a writer.
The exclamation point, also called an exclamation mark, is a punctuation mark that goes at the end of certain sentences. Its less common than the period or question mark, but its very easy to use. Some might say its too easy to use.
Avoid exclamation marks in academic writing: In academic or official documents, its best not to use exclamations as they could come off as unprofessional. Vary your punctuation: Mix it up with other punctuation marks like periods and question marks to keep your writing engaging.
Common symbols that arent allowed are and the special quote characters which will simply be removed from your statement, so remember to replace quotes with and . Backslashes (\) are also not allowed, but will be replaced with forward slashes (/) and curly brackets will be replaced with normal ones.
You should mostly avoid exclamation marks.
You can also use an exclamation mark to show that a statement is very surprising: After months of careful work, the scientists finally opened the tomb.
There is only one circumstance in academic writing when using an exclamation mark is requiredwhen one appears as part of a quote.
