After watching this video, you will know how to insert footnotes and endnotes in Word and how to change the style of these notes. Inserting a footnote is quite easy. We click into text, at the position where we want to insert the reference to the footnote. Then we go to the References tab and click on Insert Footnotes. As we can see, Word will automatically insert a line at the end of the page and also the number 1 since it is our first footnote. Here we can now write our referencing text. When we go back to the content, we can see that the referencing number is also inserted where we first placed our cursor. Of course, we can insert more footnotes on a single page. Word will simply make room for them at the end of the page. Inserting an endnote works the same way. We again click into the text, where we want the reference to the endnote to be inserted. Footnotes appear at the bottom, or foot, of the page. They begin two double spaces below the text. Footnotes are single spaced, but you must double space between them. If a note continues on the next page, add a solid line across that page two spaces below the text and continue the note two spaces below the line.
In Chicago notes and bibliography style, you can use either footnotes or endnotes, and citations follow the same format in either case. In APA and MLA style, footnotes or endnotes are not used for citations, but they can be used to provide additional information.
Add footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to add the footnote. Click Insert Insert Footnote. Word inserts a reference mark in the text and adds the footnote mark at the bottom of the page. Type the footnote text.

The citation always includes the authors name and the title of the text, and it always ends with a period. Full notes also include all the relevant publication information in parentheses (which varies by source type).
