Should You Put Your LinkedIn URL on a Resume? Yes, in todays hiring, including a link to your LinkedIn profile is mandatory in the contact information section of your resume. Up to 40% of employers may not consider interviewing you at all if they cant find your LinkedIn profile.
If youd like to use icons throughout the resume, then placing them next to the section headings is a good idea. These symbols can add a more modern feel and help draw the hiring managers attention down the page. They also give you a chance to add a touch of color further down on your resume.
But overwhelming a resume with hyperlinks or URLs probably isnt a good idea. The hiring manager isnt going to spend that much time on your resume (at least in a first go-round), so choose your links wisely and only include those you feel will increase your chances of getting hired.
Click View Profile to go to your profile page. Under Me, select View Profile. Your profile URL will be in the address bar. Under Me, select View Profile. Click the Edit public profile URL button on the right. Click the pencil icon next to your current URL. Enter your new URL and hit Save.
The address will look something like .linkedin.com/in/name. In the text box, customize the last part and click Save. You can simply remove the random string of text, keeping only your name. Alternatively, if you want people to recognize what you do easily, you can add your job title to your URL.
Place your LinkedIn URL in your resume header section with your name and other contact information. You can either include it just as text, or you can hyperlink it to your profile as well. Since many resumes are viewed digitally anyways, this saves the employer from having to type in the URL or copy and paste it.
Wert suggests that you place your links in the header or beside your contact information. That said, if they apply to a specific job or highlight some of the work you did at past companies, you can also place them under that roles heading, like my resume above. Finally, make sure you can actually click on them.
