In a Unix shell, the full stop called the dot command (.) is a command that evaluates commands in a computer file in the current execution context. In C Shell, a similar functionality is provided as the source command, and this name is seen in "extended" POSIX shells as well.
To issue setfacl, you must be the file owner or have superuser authority (either UID 0 or READ access to SUPERUSER. FILESYS. CHANGEPERMS in the UNIXPRIV class). If you specify stdin ("-") in place of a file name, you cannot specify it for any of the other options, and you cannot read the target path names from stdin.
Use the chmod command in combination with the find command in order to recursively set permissions on directories. Chmod recursive lets you recursively change the permission of a certain file. As you can see from the article, there are several options you can choose from when it comes to permissions.
Cause. The command chmod -R 777 / makes every single file on the system under / (root) have rwxrwxrwx permissions. This is equivalent to allowing ALL users read/write/execute permissions. If other directories such as home, media, etc are under root then those will be affected as well.
It means your file has extended permissions called ACLs. You have to run getfacl to see the full permissions. See Access Control Lists for more details. Save this answer.
Files and directories can have three types of permissions: read, write, and execute: Someone with read permission may read the contents of a file, or list the contents of a directory. Someone with write permission may modify the contents of a file, including adding, changing, or deleting file contents.
To set a default ACL, add d: before the rule and specify a directory instead of a file name. Copied!
setfacl is the command used to change the ACL information about a file or directory. -R means make the command recursive, or, use this command to give all the existing files/directories in the directory the same ACLs. -d means make these ACLs the default.
(dot) suffix indicates an SELinux context is present. Details may be listed with the command ls -Z. @ suffix indicates extended file attributes are present. An example on my machine: $ ls -l 35mm DNS-cache -rw-r--r--.
(dot) This refers to the working directory. .. (dot dot) This refers to the parent directory of your working directory, immediately above your working directory in the file system structure.
