How to Link authentication in PAP

so heres a simple demonstration of authentication services specifically papal also known as password authentication protocol tap is a basic but weak authentication method that uses a non encrypted password exchange so heres our PAP works so you enter your username in this case Hubert and password in this case its uber 101 hit the login button and the client sends in the username and password across the network in the clear to the PAP server so the PAP server already has a database with the with the clients username and password and then it compares the two and from the two sets of information and if they match then the client receives a message indicating that their authentication was like success and theyre given access to the network

The main difference between PAP and CHAP is that PAP uses a Two-Way Handshake and sends the password in clear-text form, whereas CHAP uses a Three-Way Handshake and never sends the password between the parties. As a result, CHAP is much more secure than PAP.
PAP authentication requires the remote device to send a name and password to be checked against a matching entry in the local username database or in the remote TACACS/TACACS+ database. CHAP authentication sends a challenge to the remote device.
The authentication type specifies the security protocol to be used for sending your user name and password to the server to establish a network connection. The supported protocols are PAP(Password Authentication Protocol) and CHAP(Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol), with CHAP considered to be more secure.
PPP can be configured to support Authentication using either PAP, CHAP, or EAP. To negotiate Authentication, the LCP link-establishment frames contain Option information in the Data field of the LCP frame.
PPP authentication is required for dial-in connectivity. Any of the three standard mechanisms---PAP, CHAP, and EAP---can be used.
The Password Authentication Protocol (PAP) provides simple password authentication on initial link establishment. It is not a strong authentication method, since passwords are transmitted in clear over the link and there is no protection from repeated attacks during the life of the link.
Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) CHAP is the second way used to authenticate via PPP, but its a more secure authentication protocol than PAP.
Definition. PAP is a password-based authentication protocol used by Point to Point Protocol (PPP) to validate users. In contrast, CHAP is a communication protocol that authenticates a user or network host to an authenticating entity.
The PPP authentication protocols are Password Authentication Protocol (PAP) and Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP).
CHAP is a stronger authentication method than PAP, because the secret is not transmitted over the link, and because it provides protection against repeated attacks during the life of the link. As a result, if both PAP and CHAP authentication are enabled, CHAP authentication is always performed first.
