The Private Header Extensions to SIP, also known as P-Headers, are special header fields whose applicability is limited to private networks with a certain topology and characteristics of lower layers protocols.
The P-header fields are used for a variety of purposes within the networks that the partners implement, including charging and information about the networks a call traverses. This document obsoletes RFC 3455.
What is SIP? The Session Initiation Protocol is a signaling protocol that enables the Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) by defining the messages sent between endpoints and managing the actual elements of a call. SIP supports voice calls, video conferencing, instant messaging, and media distribution.
What is a SIP Header? A SIP Header is a component of a SIP message that is used to convey information about the SIP message. Including the correct SIP Header and correctly formatting these SIP Headers is critical to ensure that requests are successfully routed to the right recipients.
The Require header is used by clients to tell user agent servers about options that the client expects the server to support in order to properly process the request. The parsed Require header is stored in siprequiret structure.
The Contact header field provides a single SIP URI that can be used to contact the sender of the INVITE for subsequent requests. The Contact header field MUST be present and contain exactly one SIP URI in any request that can result in the establishment of a dialog in this case, specifically a SIP INVITE.
The Proxy-Require header field is used to list features and extensions that a UA requires a proxy to support in order to process the request. A 420 Bad Extension response is returned by the proxy listing any unsupported feature in an Unsupported header field.
From header is the logical identity of the user that will be used for auth/callerid (i.e. sip:alice@company.com). The Contact header is the TCP/IP network address where you should send all packets to (i.e. sip:alice@192.168.1.1:43085;transport=tcp) - IP/port/transport info.
