% Wide figure in two column document LaTeX. \documentclass[twocolumn]{article} % For including images. \usepackage{graphicx} % For dummy text. \usepackage{lipsum} \lipsum. \begin{figure*} \centering. \caption{This is a wide figure that spans both columns.} \label{fig:img1} \lipsum.
Try it! Select the cell or column that contains the text you want to split. Select Data Text to Columns. In the Convert Text to Columns Wizard, select Delimited Next. Select the Delimiters for your data. Select Next. Select the Destination in your worksheet which is where you want the split data to appear.
as i mentioned in comment, cells cant be split, but can be merged. so solution in general in your case is use command \multicolumn{2}{c}{} which merge tvo columns and cells content align in its middle.
add \twocolumn before the text you want to split into two columns. Later you can add \onecolumn to get back to the standard one column. load the multicol package, and then enclose the text you want in two (or more) columns within its environment, like \begin{multicols}{#} \end{multicols} .
Give the \onecolumn command just before the section whose structure you need to change (but this section has to start on a new page, that is, after a \newpage command). To switch back to 2 columns, use \twocolumn the same way.
We use \multicolumn to span several columns with a single cell, and \multirow to cover multiple rows with a cell. Similarly, we can use the slashbox package to split a cell diagonally.
