If your text is in italics, then it is ok to put the link in italics as well. If you put a link in italics in a plain text, then, as you have noted above, it could be perceived as a word that should stand out (a foreign word) as well as a link, creating confusion.
Add bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough to text in Pages Select the text you want to change. To change all of the text in a text box or table cell, select the text box or table cell. In the Format sidebar, click the Style button near the top. Click one or more format buttons in the Font section.
Command-I: Italicize the selected text, or turn italics on or off. Command-K: Add a web link. Command-U: Underline the selected text, or turn underlining on or off.
Command+B: Bold the selected text. Command+I: Italicize the selected text. Command+U: Underline the selected text.
When should italics not be used? Italics should not be used for the titles of short works, such as poems, articles, short stories, or song namesall of which use quotation marks instead. The names of geographic locations and religious texts use neither italics nor quotes, but theyre still capitalized.
To sum it up, when it comes to web content you need to use bold or italics, but not the underline (except for the links). The italics are used for weaker emphasis, whereas the bold formatting is for strong emphasis.
In MLA style, you should use the title of a website as it appears on the site and italicize it as you would any independent work. Do not use the web address as the title unless the address and the title are identical.
Because italicized text is more difficult to read online, use italics sparingly. Do not italicize hyperlinked text, even when the text is a title or word that is normally italicized in running text. Do not use underlining, which may be mistaken for a hyperlink.
