Titles of books, plays, films, periodicals, databases, and websites are italicized. Place titles in quotation marks if the source is part of a larger work. Articles, essays, chapters, poems, webpages, songs, and speeches are placed in quotation marks. Sometimes titles will contain other titles.
Titled sections or pages of websites will go inside quotation marks. Website names are written normally -- no italics or quotation marks and capitalized headline style (all major words capitalized). Blogs, on the other hand, are treated like periodicals, and the titles of those will be in italics.
Italics are used primarily to denote titles and names of particular works or objects in order to allow that title or name to stand out from the surrounding sentence. Italics may also be used for emphasis in writing, but only rarely.
Note, however, that we do not use italics when citing a name which is only a conventional description: Dvořks ninth symphony is commonly known as the New World symphony. Here the label `Dvořks ninth symphony is not strictly a title, and hence is not italicized.
WCAG/WebAIM on the use of italics Similarly WebAIM advises as follows: Do not use italics or bold on long sections of text, but at the same time use various stylistic elements (italics, bold, color, brief animation, or differently-styled content) to highlight important content.
The impact of italic fonts on web accessibility While italics can be used to add emphasis or convey meaning, its recommended to use them judiciously to ensure maximum accessibility and consider alternative ways to achieve emphasis, such as using bold or underlined text.
Titles of books, plays, films, periodicals, databases, and websites are italicized. Place titles in quotation marks if the source is part of a larger work.
You should capitalize but not underline or italicize. Neither MLA nor APA require you to italicize when citing a companies name.
