Writing Your Exhibition Description The Exhibition Description acts like the entry text panel in a bricks and mortar exhibition space. It is the first piece of text visitors will see and read before they enter your exhibition and it should explain the themes, ideas, concepts and inspiration behind your exhibition.
Wall didactics are used in museums to provide additional information about a particular exhibition or artwork. They are typically written by the curator of an exhibition as a means to provide context for the viewer.
How do museums share their collections with their visitors? Lots of museums like to display their collection in public spaces to tell stories and share information. These displays are called exhibitions or exhibits.
Didactic texts are interpretive/educational texts related to an exhibition, usually written by exhibition curators, that are displayed on panels on exhibition gallery walls or as part of art object labels.
Keep the Text Short Simple Some visitors may have a limited vocabulary and you want them to enjoy the exhibit as much as others with larger vocabulary. Use paragraphs to break up longer labels. Two or three shorter paragraphs are less intimidating than one large chunk of text.
A museum label is a label describing an object exhibited in a museum or one introducing a room or area. A typical museum label from the De Young Museum in San Francisco. At a minimum, museum labels should identify the creator, title, date, location, and materials of the work, insofar as these can be known.
Wall text is a curators responsibility. It includes the large didactic panel introducing the exhibition, as well as all the various-sized smaller panels and labels, marking specific works or moments throughout the installation.
To be made up of: Title of exhibition (in italics). Year (in round brackets). [Exhibition]. Location. Date(s) of Exhibition.
