hi im matt with copy tech and today well be going over the setup and different modes of the egt plus first well turn on the power next we will hold down the power button to access the menu here we have the ability to set the number of cylinders anywhere from 1 to 16 hitting the power button will toggle you to the next option which is the redline and finally hitting the power button again will take us to our mode selection the egt plus has three different modes continuous record switch and transbrake continuous is the default and is always recording and monitoring the maximum value record switch mode will only record the maximum value when the record switch is on finally we have the transbrake mode which is the most advanced mode we offer on the e GT plus when in this mode it will give you your starting line temperature and rpm your finish line temperature and rpm your maximum temperature and how many seconds into the run it happened as well as any special note time so after setting

What should EGT be at?

If everything is working properly, 1250º to 1300º F. is a safe turbine inlet temperature, even for sustained running, mile after mile. Above 1300º F. things can start to get edgy. Remember, excessive EGT damage is cumulative.

Where do I put the pyrometer probe?

The probe should be installed in the exhaust manifold closest to the exhaust outlet at the head (this is the closest physical location to the exhaust valve).

Does EGT gauge need power?

An analog EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) probe is essentially a temperature detector that that works without electricity because it relies on thermocouplers.

How far should an EGT probe go?

2 to 4 inches are recommended. Closer will shorten the life of the probes – flame-front is at 1.5″. Farther cylinder head? (Up to 6 inches) is okay.

What is the maximum exhaust temperature of a diesel engine?

Diesel engine exhaust gases vary with speed and load. High loads and high speeds result in the highest temperatures. Generally, temperatures of 500–700°C (932–1293°F) are produced in the exhaust gases from diesel-cycle engines at 100% load to 200–300°C (392–572°F) with no load.

How much EGT is too much?

There is no wright or wrong location to fit an exhaust sensor, an exhaust gauge is designed to give you a temperature reading from it's installed location that you can use as a guide to get an average running temperature.

What is a safe EGT for a diesel?

Commonly, diesel performance enthusiasts will ask: “What's a safe EGT?” The short answer is anything sustained below 1350 degrees Fahrenheit is acceptable by most OEM standards so long as your other engine temperatures remain within safe boundaries.
