As you outline, you will also write the main point of your essay, called a thesis statement and craft beginning sentences for your paragraphs, called topic sentences. If you write an essay from start to finish without planning, your draft will lack clarity and organization. An outline is a great way to organize all of your research and thoughts before you write. It provides structure and helps you include all of the important points. It also keeps you focused as you write, so you dont include irrelevant information or repeat points. You may have outlined other writing projects on paper before. Writing your outline in a digital document allows you to easily reorder ideas and insert or delete text. To create an outline in Pages: Open a Pages document and click the Outline button on the toolbar or choose View, Show Document Outline. Start typing each heading. To create a new heading at the same level, press Return.
Select the text where you want to add the border or rule. In the Format sidebar, click the Layout button near the top. Click the line type pop-up menu in the Paragraph Borders controls, then choose a line style. A rule appears above each paragraph you selected.
Identify your topic or thesis statement. Decide what points you would like to discuss during your paper. Put your points in logical, numerical order so that each point connects back to your main point. Write possible transitions between paragraphs.

Add a border to an object in Pages on Mac Click to select an image, shape, text box, or video, or select multiple objects. In the Format sidebar, click the Style tab. Click the disclosure arrow next to Border, then click the pop-up menu and choose a type of border (line or picture frame).
You can use the Heading x paragraph styles to create the outline and then use the Navigator (F5) to modify the outline. ToolsOutline Numbering gives you the possibility to apply numbering.
