Recruiters will be used to receiving resumes/CVs with or without resume photos, depending on the occupation in question. When in doubt, to err on the safe side, we suggest not including a photo.
The question of whether or not to include a photo on your academic CV comes up a lot, so I thought it was worth dealing with it in a separate post. In a nutshell no. Do not include a photo on your academic CV.
Should you include a photo in your CV? In most cases you do not need to include a photo on your CV because they simply add no value to an application and they waste space. However, if you are in a country or industry where a photo is required, then make sure it looks professional and takes up minimal space.
Your personal image is how people perceive you at a glance. Thus, its the way you dress, the way you look, the way you behave, the way you communicate, etc. Finally, people only look at your appearance to get a first impression of whether they like you or not. That is your personal image.
Most professional photographs are of the head and a bit of the shoulders, rather than the entire body. Smile. Smiling in your photo can make you look more confident and approachable and looking directly at the camera makes you appear more trustworthy than if you are looking down or away. Taken in a suitable location.
No you should not put your photo on your CV. No employer should include judgements about your appearance in their assessment of whether youd be a good fit for the role. There are obvious (and very rare) exceptions to this rule, for example in the casting of roles for television.
