when you look at chester county line and berry inlaid furniture thereamp;#39;s this elegant simplicity with its overall design and form and shape and that is very alluring chester county has its own very individual style and for americana collectors it screams americana it screams this is from pennsylvania and this is their take on ornament in the early 18th century lionberry inlay came from welsh area of great britain and the welsh immigrants that came to pennsylvania they did this technique of light wood inlay using a compass that they would use to lay out the areas on the facade of a chest or the drawer or the top and using a compass they describe these lines into it and then they would use a chisel to relieve the wood so that a piece of wood could be inserted into it they would stick this thin little light-colored band of wood sometimes maple or holly or pear wood or something like that and that would be actually inserted into the flat surface of the facade of the chester

The inlay/onlay requires a minimum of 1.5 mm occlusal space and all cuspidian angles must be rounded and the margins must have a shoulder shape with a rounded internal angle or a wide chamfer. The preparations should have a minimum ceramic thickness of approximately 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm.
A custom, partial tooth restoration made out of porcelain comes by many names inlay, onlay, overlay, pinlay or crown. They are all essentially the same solution. There are pros and cons to each, but the primary principle dictating which is best is the preservation of as much natural tooth as possible.
Inlays are used to fill, cover and patch larger portions of a cavity, hole or gap on the biting surface of a tooth than could be sealed with a filling, and where that cavity, hole or gap is contained within the cusp of your tooth (inside the perimeter as opposed to over the shoulders or cusps of the tooth.
Inlays are beneficial because they tend to strengthen teeth, are made of resin or porcelain to blend in with teeth, and are often more durable than traditional fillings. Gold or other metals can be used which are even stronger.
The only difference is that they cover only a part of the tooth. In a nutshell, inlays are placed inside the tooth while outlays cover from the outside.
The primary distinction between an onlay and an inlay is that an onlay will cover a cusp of the tooth, whereas an inlay only fills the area between the cusps. The cavity is still drilled from the tooth, and an onlay is fabricated to the exact size and shape of the space.
A one step putty wash technique impression is the best for registering inlay-onlay preparations. Most often, preparations are few and grouped and allow the dual arch technique. By this technique, it is possible to register in one time the preparations, the antagonists and their occlusal relation.
Inlays are a type of indirect restoration (filling) that is used to restore extensively damaged or decayed teeth. When compared to conventional (direct) fillings, inlays have several advantages: Inlays are extremely strong and durable: well-made gold inlays, in particular, have exceptional longevity with proper care.
