For intravenous IG (IVIG), most nurses use a 20-, 22- or 24-gauge needle. IV needles are universally color- coded for gauge. The most common color needles for IVIG are pink for 20-gauge, blue for 22-gauge and yellow for 24-gauge.
Thinner needles (higher gauge) are less painful and cause less tissue damage. Gauges between 29G and 32G are usually suitable for Semaglutide. Choose the right length: For subcutaneous injections, a needle length between 4 mm and 12 mm is typically sufficient.
Because the progesterone in oil is thicker than the water-based medications, some nurses order 18-gauge 1.5-inch needles to withdraw it from the vial. This needle can be intimidating due to its large size, but is only used to draw up the medication. You will use a 22-gauge 1- or 1.5-inch needle to do your injection.
The most commonly used primary IV fluid bag contains 1,000 mL. There are also 500 mL, 250 mL, 100 mL, and 50 mL bags. The size of the primary fluid bag is based on infusion need, patient condition, and age.
IV cannulas come in different sizes, each catering to specific medical needs. The length of an IV cannula is denoted by the gauge, with lower gauge numbers indicating larger cannulas. Commonly used sizes include 14G, 16G, 17G,18G, 20G, 22G,24G and 26G.
Longer needles ( inch or longer) are commonly used for intramuscular injections, while shorter (shorter than inch) needles are more often used for intravenous injections. Different sized needles are used for different purposes.
Green - 18G: 1.3 mm wide; 32 mm long; ~90 mL/min water flow rate. Pink - 20G: 1.1 mm wide; 32 mm long; ~60 mL/min water flow rate. Blue - 22G: 0.9 mm wide; 25 mm long; ~36 mL/min water flow rate. Yellow - 24G: 0.7 mm wide; 19 mm long; ~20 mL/min water flow rate.
Most of the time, medical professionals rely on 20-gauge IVs for general infusions. They also resort to them to transfer blood if 18-gauge needles arent available or when treating patients that have relatively small veins.
