To insert a date value directly into the table, use the date format prescribed by the database management system: INSERT INTO TableName (DateColumn) VALUES (YYYY-MM-DD);
Here are some date format codes in the format string: yyyy: Year with century (e.g., 2023) yy: Year without century (e.g., 23) MM: Month as a two-digit number (e.g., 02 for February) MMM: Abbreviated month name (e.g., Feb) MMMM: Full month name (e.g., February) dd: Day of the month as a two-digit number (e.g., 03)
PostgreSQL uses the yyyy-mm-dd format for storing and inserting date values. If you want to create a table with a DATE column and use the current date as the default value for this column, you can use the CURRENTDATE keyword after the DEFAULT keyword.
You can use now() with default auto fill and current date and time for this. Later, you can extract the date part using date() function.
The FORMAT(transactiondate, dd-MM-yyyy) function converts the transactiondate from YYYY-MM-DD to DD-MM-YYYY.
DATE() Using the DATE () function in SQL, you can specifically extract the date from the DATETIME datatype column. Syntax: SELECT DATE (DateTimeValue);
Using INSERT Statement INSERT syntax for DATE. INSERT INTO tablename (dateColumn) VALUES (2023-12-31); INSERT syntax for TIME. INSERT INTO tablename (timeColumn) VALUES (14:30:00); INSERT syntax for DATETIME. INSERT INTO tablename (datetimeColumn) VALUES (2023-12-31 14:30:00); INSERT syntax for TIMESTAMP.
