hey everyone shashank this side i hope everybody is doing well and safe at home as you can see on my screen today well be going to cover up an important topic where i will show you how you can share your aws ami across different region within aws and across different accounts now the question is why this is required so obviously for example lets say im operating from different region right within ews one single aws account and i want to use my custom ami with set of softwares updated with the patches drivers and everything so instead of creating image again and again within different region i would like to use one golden image shared across region and use that image to provision my production environments right so thats where this topic is quite important on the other hand in terms of sharing this to our different ews accounts so for example we are dealing with development staging production just to make a replica in the lower side of the house right lower side of the environment

To copy your AMI from one region to another region, you can follow the below-given steps. Login to your AWS account. Go to your EC2 dashboard. Click on the AMI option. Select your AMI and in Actions, you can find Copy AMI.
You can copy the same AMI to multiple regions simultaneously. The console-based interface is push-based; you log in to the source region and select where youd like the AMI to end up.
An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a template that contains a software configuration (for example, an operating system, an application server, and applications). From an AMI, you launch an instance, which is a copy of the AMI running as a virtual server in the cloud.
Its not possible to transfer existing instances or AMIs between AWS accounts. Instead, you can manually migrate an EC2 image from one AWS account to another.
You can share an AMI with specific AWS accounts without making the AMI public. All you need are the AWS account IDs.
Note: Instances created from AMIs dont retain or copy any data stored in instance store volumes. The source instance that you create the AMI from retains all data thats stored in the instance store.

An AMI owner can determine their instance availability through the following three launch permissions: Public, that grants instance launch permission to all AWS account holders. Explicit, that grants launch permission only to specific AWS accounts. Implicit, where only the AMI owner has permission to launch an instance.
Select your AMI in the list, and then choose Actions, Edit AMI permissions. Choose Private. Under Shared accounts, choose Add account ID. For AWS account ID, enter the AWS account ID with which you want to share the AMI, and then choose Share AMI.
