Yes, art is still art even if no one else ever sees it, because art is not about the product, its about the act of creation. Its about taking a thought/inspiration and turning it into a reality through applied action.
Artists are especially prone to self-doubt due to the nature of our work. We pour our hearts and souls into our creationswhether its painting or sculpting or writing or craftingand then have to find the courage to put that work out into the world, which is full of critics and judgment and rejection.
While it is true that artists, no matter how famous, have a right to preserve their anonymity for the sake of privacy, the authenticity and personal value of an artist risk getting lost in the unknown. The unknown is what sometimes burns the bridges between the artist and their fans.
It allows for public critique, celebration, and connection. I think artists often push towards that solo exhibition moment, knowing the moment it marks throughout their careers, and that push is necessary.
Traditionally, the signature is placed in the lower left corner on the front of the work. This is where a collector or buyer will look first for the signature. Some artists incorporate their signature into the painting, hiding it in a bush or tree so it doesnt interfere with the painting.
The most standard information included on artwork labels is: The artists name. This one is pretty straightforward! The title of the work. The date of the artwork. The size of the artwork. The medium of the artwork. The price or the credit listing. Additional information for artwork labels.
A monogram is a symbol an artist adopts as a signature. Signatures or monograms can be found at the bottom margin of the painting or on the back of the canvas. In the case of a monogram, you can use an artist monogram database to match the monogram to the artist.
The most common reason for an artists anonymity is to protect them from being prosecuted, especially in the case of graffiti and street artists.
