To hide a measure in the crosstab, click on the column and select Hide. In the data pane, hide is for removing fields that you are not planning to use. If you have the field in a worksheet, you cannot hide it because it is being used.
What works: In the field list in the Data Source (where the fields are listed in the vertical list, not the data columns) - click the first field. Scroll down to the bottom, and holding Shift, click the last field to select the entire range. On any field, click the drop-down and select unhide. Switch to Live. Update Now.
If youre using an extract, theres an option at the bottom of the dialog to Hide All Unused Fields. If your data source has a ton of dimensions and measures, this will hide them and exclude them from the extract that Tableau creates. This helps reduce the size of the data and improves its performance.
By default, field labels are shown. To hide or show field labels, select Analysis Table Layout Show Field Labels for Rows or Show Field Labels for Columns.
Simply select the fields you want to hide then right-click and select Hide from the menu.
Hide unused fields The number of columns in a dataset has a larger impact on performance than the number of rows. Therefore, removing unused columns can docHubly speed up performance especially if the dataset is very wide but only a few columns are needed.
