What is a temporary employee? Temporary employees are hired on a fixed-term contract for an agreed period of time, either with an end date or upon completion of a specific project.
An employee is on a companys payroll and receives wages and benefits in exchange for following the organizations guidelines and remaining loyal. A contractor is an independent worker who has autonomy and flexibility but does not receive benefits such as health insurance and paid time off.
Temporary employment, whereby workers are engaged only for a specific period of time, includes fixed-term, project- or task-based contracts, as well as seasonal or casual work, including day labour.
The temporary employment contract has a maximum duration of 180 days, which can be consecutive or not. In addition, it can be extended for another 90 days (also consecutive or not), as long as the employer proves that the extension of the contract is necessary.
An employment contract can be void when there are changes in laws that affect the contract, and the company did not update the contract before it was signed and agreed upon by both parties. Meanwhile, a voidable employment contract is a formal contract that starts off as valid but becomes unenforceable later on.

Similar to fixed-term, temporary contracts are offered when a contract is not expected to become permanent. Usually they would have some form of end date included, however, these may be subject to change. As such, temporary workers may have their contracts extended in line with demand and availability.
Hiring temporary workers may lead to friction with your existing staff. Permanent workers may fret about being replaced. Long-established teams may cease to function efficiently because trust hasnt been established with recently added workers.
