- Hello everybody. Scott Friesen here at Simpletivity helping you to get more done and enjoy less stress. And today Im talking to you from the road. I just finished an all day workshop that I delivered yesterday right here in Spokane, Washington. And Im about to pack up my hotel room and head to the airport to head back home. And you know this month, Im spending an awful lot of time on the road. So I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to pass along some productivity tips to help you stay productive while youre traveling. Whether thats for business or maybe even if thats for pleasure such as a vacation. So today I wanna talk about two things that I do as I am preparing to head out. Whether Im departing or whether Im heading back home. And that has to do with my boarding passes and making sure Im at the right gate number. So number one, my number one tip has to do with your digital boarding pass. Were pretty fortunate that most airlines have an online app or they can

Travelers fly every day without providing their middle names when booking a ticket. Some airlines print your boarding pass without including your middle name, the first and middle names are merged, or the last half of your name is missing.
Not all airlines require a middle name on boarding passes. Some ask for a middle initial or don't prompt you at all. However, the TSA's Secure Flight Program involves tighter guidelines on names on documents in order to cut back on the number of passengers being misidentified.
Unfortunately, there's no surefire way to prevent being selected for SSSS. However, if you notice that you're getting selected repeatedly, you can find out what a redress control number is and apply through the Department of Homeland Security Traveler Redress Inquiry Program (DHS TRIP).
One other theory is that they determine your “risk” based on what might be considered “suspicious behavior,” like buying a one-way ticket or paying for your flight in cash. As we've written before, you might also be selected if you're flying to or from what's considered a high-risk country.
Will SSSS Keep Happening? This totally depends. I've had plenty of SSSS, either because my passport name didn't perfectly match my ticketed name, I booked a one way fare, or I grabbed a last minute seat. In these cases the SSSS typically goes away after just one unlucky trip.
An SSSS code stamped on your boarding pass overrides pre-approval through a Trusted Traveler Program such as TSA PreCheck and can add 15 to 45 minutes (or more) to your boarding process.
SSSS stands for Secondary Security Screening Selection. It's a tag printed on your boarding pass to indicate that you have been selected to receive additional enhanced screening of your body and your personal items like carry-on baggage at the airport — either at the initial TSA screening area or the boarding gate.
Secondary Security Screening Selection — or "The Quad S," as some call it — means you have been selected for additional enhanced security screening by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
An SSSS code stamped on your boarding pass overrides pre-approval through a Trusted Traveler Program such as TSA PreCheck and can add 15 to 45 minutes (or more) to your boarding process.
If you're constantly getting SSSS on your boarding pass, and don't believe you should, there's a website to help get rid of it, and it's fairly easy. DHS Trip is a site dedicated to people who have regular issues flying, have been denied boarding, entry or have been selected for SSSS and other issues.
