The answer is no. An ACL scar will not completely disappear however, following the steps mentioned above will help you to improve and ensure the best healing possible for your incision.
If the wound was deep and affected nerves or tendons, a person might have long-term symptoms, such as pain or numbness, in the affected area. Some people experience scar tissue pain as a result of fibrosis, which occurs when the body grows an excessive amount of scar tissue.
ACL Surgery Scar- Cosmetics Scar massage, with massage cream or over the counter scar creams, also assists in reducing the amount of scar tissue that develops in and around the scar. Be careful not to massage directly over the scar, until it is well healed.
If you tear your ACL, youll probably need surgery to repair it. Most people who tear their ACL make a full recovery and resume playing sports with no long-term consequences. The recovery time for a torn ACL is usually six to nine months.
ACL injuries dont always need surgery. When people have minor ACL injuries, doctors may suggest a nonsurgical ACL injury treatment. Nonsurgical approaches may also be best for older adults and people at a higher risk of surgery complications. UPMC specializes in both nonsurgical and surgical care for ACL injuries.
Will my ACL surgery scar ever go away? Well, the honest answer is no. Scars will never completely disappear.
Most often, surgeons recommend ACL reconstruction after it tears. For this procedure, the surgeon will remove the damaged ligament and replace it with a new one, called a graft, which can be made of tissue from the patients own kneecap tendons or hamstringsor from a deceased donor.
