The paragraph tags are used to define a block of text as a paragraph. This HTML element is one of the basic HTML tags you should learn to use properly.
To use the tag, simply add the tag wherever you want a line break to appear in your code. In the example above, the tag is used to insert a line break between the two lines of text, all within the same element. This is what the text will look like: This is a paragraph.
In HTML and XHTML, each paragraph should start with and end with the corresponding tag. And while a sequence of newline characters in a text processor-displayed document creates an empty paragraph for each one, browsers typically ignore all but the first paragraph tag.
XHTML Elements Must be Properly Nested. XHTML Elements Must Always be Closed. XHTML Empty Elements Must Always be Closed. XHTML Elements Must be in Lowercase. XHTML Attribute Names Must be in Lowercase. XHTML Attribute Values Must be Quoted. XHTML Attribute Minimization is Forbidden.
The tag in HTML is used to define the block of preformatted text which preserves the text spaces, line breaks, tabs, and other formatting characters which are ignored by web browsers.
The tag defines preformatted text. Text in a element is displayed in a fixed-width font, and the text preserves both spaces and line breaks.
The tag defines a paragraph. Browsers automatically add a single blank line before and after each element. Tip: Use CSS to style paragraphs.
To add extra space below a line or paragraph of text, or push text down lower on the page once, you can use the tag. Below is an example of how this technique can be applied.
Copy and paste the text into your HTML editor and then place the and tags. Without the tags, the text would all run together as one line without the spaces or line breaks that were created in Word.
By default, the Web browser displays all the text of an HTML page as a single paragraph. You can format this text in different ways by using the various tags. For example, the P tags are used to arrange the text in multiple paragraphs, and the BR tags allow you to continue text from the next line.
