- If youre a DJ working as a professional and you dont have a contract, you need to stop what youre doing, and you need to get a contract. Every event, every time youre working, you should have a contract in place to guarantee that youre protected, as well as your clients and events are protected. So lets talk about what should be in your contract. First and foremost, your name, your information, all the information about you, and, of course, the person you are working for should be clearly spelled out. Also, the details about the event itself, the start time, the end time, the location, the room name, and anything else related to that particulars of that celebration. Next up, you need to have information about your services the things that they will be getting in exchange for the amount of money that they will be paying for your service. Tips are optional for ceremony or cocktail hour musicians, as well as bands and DJs, but they are suggested, says Norwood. Anywhere from 15% to 20% on the final contract is a good amount for a single DJ, she says.
Average DJ Hourly Rates A run-of-the-mill DJ with decent experience will cost you between $50 and $100 per hour. Mid-range DJ: Looking for a more seasoned or perhaps specialized DJ? Plan on a range between $100 and $200 per hour.
The core elements that a DJ contract should cover include DJ Services Provided, Payment Agreement, Cancellation and Refund Policy, Equipment and Setup Requirements, and Force Majeure.
Secondly, you can simply ask if the price is negotiable and in most cases it will lead to a conversation about what the DJ can do or why his/her price is worth it. Keep in mind that the DJ business has busy periods and some not very busy periods in the year. So you can expect a better deal during the not busy season.
Owners are not tipped. Self-employed vendors or business owners are typically not given gratuity. Bands or DJs not booked through an entertainment agency are also not tipped.
The standard is $20-$25 per musician or $50-$150 for DJs. Gratuity for drivers is usually included in the contract. If it isnt included, 15-20% of the total bill, depending on the service, is the general rule. Whether or not tipping is optional for your vendors, its always nice to send a hand-written thank you note.
ENTERTAINMENT. DJ YES, you should tip your DJ $50 - $100, more or less depending on service. DJs are often credited with making or breaking the vibe of the event, if yours was a great emcee, played your faves, and dealt with your tipsy guests, they deserve a tip! Band Absolutely.
Traditionally, you do not need tip business owners. There are exceptions to this in the case of photographers who are both the owner and the service provider. In those cases, you may want to make the exception.
