In Level 3, you have an additional coat of compound over the embedded tape at the drywall joints and angles. Here in Level 4, you have two additional coats. The fastener heads, accessories, and beads are covered with three coats.
Level 5 drywall has a high-quality skim coat over it. This thin coat covers the nails, tape, compound, and wall materials from the naked eye, creating a pleasing, completed look.
Level One: The wall built is not covered with any paint or paste but instead taped. Screws are visible, and the ridges are not sanded. These walls are commonly seen in less-noticeable areas due to their minimal design. Attics, basements, and other less-seen spaces may feature level-one finishing.
Schedules are typically developed from the top down, but are then maintained from Level 4 up. Level 5 schedules are temporary documents based on the Look-ahead schedule and used to coordinate work in an area.
Level 4 Upscale Interior To achieve level 4 classification, the drywall must first have embedded joint tape on all seams and corners. After this, installers apply two coats of joint compound over the seams, one coat over the corners, and three coats over the fasteners.
Level 4 A standard 3 coat tape job for painted surfaces that are not to be coated with gloss, semi-loss or enamel or where shinny wall covering will not be used. Level 5 is a level 4 tape job with one thin coat of compound spread over the surface to minimize texture and even out the surface for shinier finishes.
In laymens terms, a level 5 finish is drywall that has been taped, given a first and second coat, sanded briefly before applying a thin skim coat to the entire surface. The skim coat is then also sanded, and put under intense light to look for imperfections in the smoothness.
What is drywall and how is it installed? Step 1: Secure Drywall to the Wall. Step 2: Tape Mud. Step 3: Texture. Level 0 Temporary Application. Level 1 Service Utility Space. Level 2 Garage Warehouse. Level 3 Standard Interior. Level 4 Upscale Interior.
Applying the second coat too early will result in streaks, peeling paint, and uneven color. Not only will this ruin the entire project but itll cost additional money to get more paint in some occasions. Its best to wait for the first coat to dry.
Level 4: All joints and interior angles shall have tape embedded in joint compound and shall be immediately wiped with a joint knife leaving a thin coating of joint compound over all joints and interior angles.
