Finishes include films and other covering materials like plaster or bricks. A designer might stain a stone wall to a darker color or etch a logo into glass for an elegant, classy piece of branding. An architectural finish isnt purely aesthetic or purely functional.
Types of Finishes Finishes are two types, these are: Mechanical/ dry finishes: It involves physical treatment to a fabric surface to cause a change in fabric appearance. Chemical/ wet finishes: It involves the application of synthesis or natural chemical products, which binds the fibers more or less permanently.
Surface finishing materials are paints, varnishes, distempers and white/colour washing. The surfaces may be plastered wall surfaces, ceilings, wooden surfaces, metallic surfaces, etc. These surface finishing materials have to provide a hygienic surface and present a healthy surrounding to live in.
Finishes are used in the final part of the construction or manufacturing process, forming the final surface of an element. They can protect the element they finish from impact, water, frost, corrosion, abrasion, and so on, and/or they can be decorative.
Commonly used wood finishes include wax, shellac, drying oils (such a linseed oil or tung oil) lacquer or paint. Other finishes called oil finish or Danish oilare actually thin varnishes with a relatively large amount of oil and solvent.

In reality, a material is what a thing is made of and a finish is simply how it is, well finished. How about some examples: A wall is made of studs and drywall.
Finishing processes may be employed to: improve appearance, adhesion or wettability, solderability, corrosion resistance, tarnish resistance, chemical resistance, wear resistance, hardness, modify electrical conductivity, remove burrs and other surface flaws, and control the surface friction.
