[Music] hi this is Jonathan Ginsburg and Id like to talk to you today about what is called a closed period of disability and basically a closed period means its one where there is a start date and an end date as opposed to ongoing disability normally when you apply for disability uh you basically say to Social Security I have a medical problem that prevents me from working uh it has lasted or expected to last 12 consecutive months uh and it is continuing to uh keep me from working uh there are some situations however where you may have a medical issue that gets resolved in a year and a half or two years uh or even if it hasnt fully resolved the medical evidence simply is not there to go uh Beyond a year and a half or two years and if thats the case um you dont have to give up your entire claim you can ask the judge for a set period of time and again its got to be at least 12 consecutive months um but it can be again a year and a half two years three or something like that and uh
