The power loss in a WPT system when power is transmitted in air mainly consists of ferrite core loss and copper loss in the coil. As shown in Figure 1, the eddy current losses caused by the seawater media represent a large portion of the power loss in seawater environment [40, 41].
Disadvantages of magnetic resonance WPT: Lower efficiency and increased heating compared to power transfer using wires. Cannot be used in long range applications.
However, the WPT suffers from some problems including unsatisfied power efficiency, limited transfer distance, unpredictable reliability, thermal issues and other problems.
Topology Optimization. Based on the above analysis results, low coupling efficiency under a wide load range and insufficient power capability under a small load value limit the application of the WPT system with an HB inverter. Therefore, a resistance matching network (RMN) is added to improve these issues.
As electricity travels through power lines, a proportion of energy is lost as heat, due to the resistance in the lines. The losses are higher, the greater the distance the electricity travels and the lower the voltages of the line.
Hint: There are mainly two types of losses in transmission lines: technical losses and non-technical losses. In technical loss we have radiation loss, conductor loss, dielectric heating loss, coupling loss and corona loss. In case of non-technical losses there are power theft, metering inaccuracies, etc.
